In the past, the Korean scientific community avoided working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. But silence is no any longer an option.
The STR has been battling to eliminate content from textbooks that explain evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of the way in which the development paradigm has changed.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the evolution of the genetic traits of living organisms over time. The theory is based upon the fact that living creatures adapt to their environment, which can result in changes to genes or even whole genomes. These changes can, over generations result in the development of new species. Natural selection is the dominant theory of evolution. It explains how individuals who have advantages survive and reproduce more than those with disadvantageous ones. This variation in reproduction could, over time, lead to the emergence and evolution of new species.
The term "evolution" comes from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing, but the concept itself has had many different meanings over the years as it has taken shape in the sciences and in other fields. Some early evolutionists, including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species change into new species in a gradual and predictable manner.
In recent years evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living organisms develop traits that enhance their chances of survival or ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population develop new physical traits or biological functions. This shift in gene frequency is known as natural selection and it drives most evolutionary change. However non-genetic changes like the increase in the muscle mass as a result of diet or exercise cannot be considered examples of evolution since they're not inherited by future generations.
Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven to be valid by a multitude of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They argue that the theory should not be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories against evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino that is believed to be the bird's ancestor.
Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?

It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology doesn't conflict with religious beliefs as it only focuses on physical objects, events, and processes.
In reality, many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. For example certain Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution, and that humans share an ancestral lineage with other animals.
It is important that scientists and educators speak out for teaching evolution. In certain countries, the anti-evolution movement has been growing. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks that cover the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
It is crucial to keep in mind that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. This support is based on many different reasons. Scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries for example, such as the development of treatments and other treatments, while others are driven by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, whereas others have a profound faith in God and seek to know how the universe functions.
What is Creationism?

Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists generally fall into two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The most well-known type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe exactly in the way that is described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true, and that the universe and the life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs may be less known However, their beliefs are just as intense like those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is a lie.
Both kinds of creationism deny that scientific principles such as biogenesis and natural selection could explain how life began on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it requires the creation of a miracle, and the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." In this view, God creates the original species and allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species similar to the original.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, called the Great Flood. They believe that all species were created at the same time and then slowly evolved. They reject the concept of abiogenesis and claim that self-replicating life cannot arise from nonliving matter.
In general, creationists are against teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. However, certain researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and permit the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curriculum.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their books. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. The next goal is to eliminate excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its aim is to root out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of undergraduates studying biology found that half didn't believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear but could be due to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the United States.
The KACR has achieved a number of things through its lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences with a creationist viewpoint, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught to this day.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
